Cant decide on dog flaps large, small or an extra large dog flap?

There are many kinds of dog flaps large or small depending on the size and style you are looking for. You can even go to the extreme of getting an extra large dog flap or an extra small dog flap, round or square.

There really is no limit to what can be bought these days. There are the mainstream manufacturers who tend to go for White, plastic and square but if you find yourself looking a bit harder you can certainly find a much more detailed range of products to chose from.

An extra large dog flap is great for an extra large doggie, just be sure to go for one that is safe and secure, and helps keep your home protected – although a dog sleeping behind the door is going to deter many would be burglars.

True, these days the range is impressive for dog flaps large or small but at the same time you have got to think about costs. Some of the bespoke manufacturers will charge you a substantial amount more. This isn’t their fault, it is because they work on items by hand, and don’t have large scale industrial processes in place where they can make items cheaper.

If your dog is ginormous then of course you are going to need an extra large dog flap, so give them what they want, and you never know, they may just start loving you that bit more. Plus you’ve got the added benefit of they can go out into the garden whenever they want, enjoy the air outside and return to base at their own leisure.

Sometimes it can take a bit of training, especially if they’ve never used one before but the technique that works best is to use bribery. Have one of you sat one side with the dog, and have someone else sat the other side with some of the favorite food. Lift the flap and let them see and smell the food and then encourage them to come through.

Let them feel the flap on their back as they walk through, and repeat this process a half dozen times.

It works like a dream every time you try it.

What about an extra large dog flap?

Because there are so many dog flaps large and small it is recommended you get the size flap that is most near their size which allows them to step through easily without having to crouch down or reach out too much. So allow a little extra room. Just don’t go to overboard. An extra large dog flap for a really small dog is quite unnecessary – and vice versa, a large dog wont get through an 8 inch square flap.

Sometimes bigger really is not better.
